After a Bharatiya Janata Party minister from Bihar passed a sexist pretty face comment at Priyanka Gandhi following her formal entry into politics, opposition leader from the state and Rashtriya Janata Dal scion Tejashwi Yadav hit back at the Nitish Kumar government saying that the Chief Minister runs an institute which trains to abuse.
Nitish Kumar is running an institute where he trains to abuse and makes excuses…his cabinet ministers and spokespersons are trained there,
BJP minister from Bihar Vinod Narayan Jha on Friday made a sexist comment on Priyanka Gandhi after she was made the Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh East for the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
One cannot woo voters based on pretty faces. If the Congress party thinks Priyanka Gandhi is beautiful, hence she can win votes, they are mistaken, Jha said on Thursday.
The entry of Priyanka Gandhi has injected a new wave of confidence in the party cadre of a resurgent Congress which recently bagged Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh in the State Assembly Elections 2018 in December.
Congress announced the decision days after it was left in the lurch by the SP-BSP alliance in UP and the grand old party hopes she will be able to wrest a chunk of upper caste votes back from the BJP in Uttar Pradesh.
Gnawing into this vote bank of the BJP is part of a strategy to limit the saffron party’s chances in Uttar Pradesh. The BJP also faces a massive threat from the recently announced SP-BSP alliance which is expected to corner a solid portion of the Muslim-OBC-Dalit vote share.
Experts claim that Priyanka is Congress’ trump card in the battle for UP and making her the in-charge of Eastern UP election affairs – where both PM Modi’s and Yogi Adityanath’s Varanasi and Gorakhpur’s constituencies are located – is meant to take the fight to the bastion of BJP’s strongest leaders.
It is to be noted that in 2009, most of the Lok Sabha seats won by Congress (21) were located in East UP. There is also speculation that her entry will make Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati rethink their decision of excluding Congress from their anti-BJP alliance.
Priyanka Gandhi is the 11th member of the Nehru-Gandhi family to join politics.
